GFA World Helps India Face Its COVID Goliath
WILLS POINT, TX — The COVID-19 virus is claiming 120 lives per hour in India, according to a CBS News report. With relatives of the dead waiting hours in line at the country’s crematoriums, many fear that the number of deaths is under-reported.
Worldometers reports that the average number of new cases of COVID in India per day since May is over 390,000. That’s six times more than Brazil and 14 times more than in the U.S. It is also nearly 78 percent of the total new COVID cases per day for all of Asia, and more than half of all cases reported daily worldwide.
BBC News reported on May 10 that “the bodies of at least 40 people have washed up on the banks of the Ganges River” between the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The BBC report cites other media agencies claiming that more than 100 bodies have been discovered.
The nation and its people are up against a virus so deadly that it is much like Israel when it faced Goliath and the Philistine army. Israel had come to a standstill not only because of the damage Goliath had brought upon them but also because of their fear of what harm he might continue to inflict.
The healthcare system is overwhelmed with COVID casualties as the virus attacks rich and poor, city dwellers and rural families. The onslaught is relentless. So, also, must be the aid.
GFA World is uniquely poised to assist the people of India during its COVID crisis through its network of Christian churches, schools, hospitals, clinics, and relief resources. That network extends to even the most remote villages where families are desperate for help.
The agency responds with every means available. In a recent press release, K.P. Yohannan, founder of GFA World, announced that the organization is preparing a shipment of life-saving medical supplies, including oxygen equipment, to aid in this unprecedented crisis.
